Biomes

1. What is a biome? A biome is group of plants and animals from a region that inhabit the area based on the climate and vegetation.

2. What are the common characteristics of a temperate grassland biome? Grasses, fertile soil, 10 - 20 inches of rainfall/snowfall a year.

3. Take one characteristic of the grassland or prairie and discuss what you expect you might see in the field.

I expect to see a few types of grasses - although I used to know alot of the native grasses in high school, I feel as though I have not been around them enough and had much to do with them to know them now.

Oh good. Another grass person. I've been working on identifying grasses this year. I decided to learn the common non-native ones first, the ones I'm most likely to see in the ditch (smooth brome, downy brome, crested wheat, foxtail). My reasoning is that if I know those well and then a different grass, I will know that the odds are pretty good that I'm seeing something native.
