The Field Journal: An Overview
Description
Keeping a scientifically meaningful field journal is an essential science skill. I assign reading about field journals EVERY class I lead.
We will NOT be keeping a field journal for this class using the Grinnell system but I do think it's critical that as educators you are familiar with the "real science" application.
This year, our field notebook will be submitted digitally with photos. A written field notebook is still necessary. A sample photo field notebook is linked below.
Task
If you have never read Notes On Keeping a Field Journal please read that. Otherwise, read one of the other selections on field journals. There is no response required but you are invited to post in the discussion forum any thoughts, experiences, resources in the discussion forum. Be sure to mark it as a response to this assignment.
Learning Objectives
1. Participants will recognize the protocol for a Grinnel style field journal.
2. Participants will understand the value of a nature journal.
