I felt that the essay was very interesting in the way it was worded. It did give alot of good examples in how matter in our world is always transforming from place to place. This matter can be moved from the ground, to a plant, to a animal, and then to a human throughout its existence. It really made sense in the second paragraph of the chapter when it stated, "that X was pulled out and up into the world of living things. X helped bulid a flower, which became an acorn, which fattened a deer, which fed an Indian, all in a single year." That to me is a strong statement.
Being a Health educator I feel that I could relate this subject matter that Aldo Leopold has writing about in the Odyssey when talking about how the food chain works. I feel this would be material that could be read by high school level students.

"X was pulled out and up into the world of living things" is such a clear, vigorous description of how a nutrient enters the biogeochemical cycle. So much of the depth and texture of Aldo Leopold's ideas comes from the simple clarity of his writing, even when he's writing about big ideas.
