1. A biome is a very specific interaction between the soil, and living organisms (plant and animal life) which is adapted to a specific environment.
2. Common characteristics of Temperate grasslands: fertile soils (predominantly created by calcification), semiarid climate (most moisture falling as snow), mostly covered by perennial grasses (with specific adaptations to moisture retention and heat reduction), and fauna that depend upon the grasses for sustenance.
3. One characteristic of the temperate grasslands that I plan to see in the field is perennial grasses. I expect that we will see a variety of grasses (which I would like to work on my grass identification skills) and a combination of green lush grass from this growing season and the deal grass from last year present.

Yay! A grass person!
I once heard a doctorate in botany say that he could identify maybe 12 grasses. Maybe. Since then, I've felt better than I can recognize like, four two of which are crested wheat and smooth brome.
