Description

Participants keep a journal at the conference, reflecting on the speakers' messages.  This is required for both the contact hours certificate and the credit.


Task

Participants will keep a journal on the conference. These journals will be shared as part of the collective class portfolio. The journal will follow this format:


Part 1. Expectations. Prompt: What do I want to get out of the conference?


Part 2. A short summary of each session attended. The summary includes: a. Speaker b. Name of Presentation c. Summary of speaker’s message d. “Shockers and/or Blockers”. Prompt: Shockers are these are those aspects of the presentation you found interesting or exciting, want more information about, agreed with, gave you more information about a topic, felt positively challenged by. Blockers are those aspects of the presentation you disagreed with, didn’t understand, raised questions you don’t think the speaker addressed, found offensive or inaccurate.


Part 3. A wrap up of the conference. Prompt: Did the conference meet your expectations? What happened that you weren’t expecting? What didn’t happen that you wish had? Did any themes or recurring topics suggest themselves? What are you “taking home”?
