The Plain Green conference brings together international, national and local thought leaders about sustainability to disseminate, cross pollinate, and investigate ideas pertaining to sustainability. Educators should avail themselves of this opportunity to be aware of new trends, information and research in order to better support their teaching.
While educators need exposure to what is new and innovative, they also need to reflect how that pertains what is tried and true.
This professional development opportunity will allow educators the time and space to attend the Plain Green conference and then extend the impact of that conference to their classroom by reviewing two lessons from the Green Education Foundation Sustainability Lesson Clearinghouse in light of what they experienced.
Below are the details for the Plain Green Conference & Professional Development Opportunity
What: A blended (face to face/online) professional development opportunity focused around the Plain Green Conference.
When: The conference is Friday, September 13. This is the face to face piece. The online activities are due November 15.
Where: The Plain Green conference is in Sioux Falls at the Orpheum Theater. Participants in this professional development must attend the conference.
Why: To build your capacity to teach about sustainability.
How much: $40 for conference registration. $45 for credit through USF.
Registration for this professional development program is open. There are THREE (yes 3!) registrations that have to completed. You have to:
- Register for the Plain Green Conference. ($40)
- Register with the University of Sioux Falls to sign up and pay for the credit (can be done onsite at the conference, but why wait?) After you register with the University of Sioux Falls system, sign up for this class (Educators Explore Plain Green) with them. You can search SDDC or Educators Explore Plain Green to find it. ($45)
- Register for this class on the Taking It Global platform (http://sddiscoverycen.tiged.org/plaingreen13/register/). Your registraton code is plaingreen13. The first time is a two step process - once with Taking it Global, once to actually register for the class. I'll explain why below.
The most important registration is the registration for the Plain Green conference itself. No conference, no credit. Don't risk show up without registering. You might not get lunch or the cool bookmark the SD Discovery Center is putting in the goodie packs.
The Plain Green registration is fairly easy to understand but why do you have to register with the University of Sioux Falls AND Taking It Global?
We at the SD Discovery Center partner with the University of Sioux Falls to accredit our professional development. so you can get graduate credit for this. This means your information and your money need to go to University of Sioux Falls.
But even though we are partners with the University of Sioux Falls, we maintain a different online learning "space". In short, we don't use their online class software. Instead we use Taking It Global for the online portion of our professional development. This is where the actual online interaction and discussion will take place. So by registering here you are able to participate in the actual class.
You register at USF to get the credit, you register here to do the work.
If you don't want credit or you have credit from someplace else, you don't have to register with USF.
Confusing? A little. It this makes no sense to you, give me a call at 605-224-8295 and I will walk you through it.
